Art
nouveau was a movement that was associated with the decorative arts and
architecture during 1880’s-1914.
Many
artists drew inspiration for organic and geometric forms, this lead to the
development of elegant designs that explored natural forms.
Mackintosh was the most
famous as the United Kingdom’s greatest promoter of Art Nouveau
Charles
Rennie Mackintosh preferred to work with simplistic designs, instead of the
popular elaborate designs that other artists favoured.
Abstract expressionism:
Abstract expressionism developed in New York in
1940
This style related to the post-war mood of anxiety and trauma
Jackson Pollock studied under Thomas Hart Benton
before leaving traditional techniques to explore abstraction expressionism by
splattering paint and action pieces, which involved pouring paint and other media
directly onto canvases. Capturing the anxiety and trauma.
